For years, I have been obsessed with MAC’s Skinfinishes. I bought back-ups of Whisper of Gilt, I have Lightscapade in both the old and new packaging. And now, I have a new obsession: the four new shades from MAC’s Extra Dimension Skinfinish permanent line!
“A liquid-powder highlighter that gives a luminous, well-defined finish.”
Of the four new additions, I started with the two that would be best suited to my fair skintone. And these highlighters are phenomenal. They’re really pigmented and have a beautiful duochrome effect.
Doublegleam is described as a beige that breaks silver. Think of this as a gold highlight that does not lean yellow at all, which is a dream for someone with a cool fair skintone.
Compared to some of my other favourite gold highlights, Doublegleam really does come off as more of a white gold. It has more of a shimmer impact when compared to Becca’s formula.
In studio light, it leans very silver but definitely gives my cheekbones a nice highlight without accentuating fine lines and pores.
Soft Frost is described as white that breaks violet. This was first on my list when I saw the release. It is absolutely stunning.
As you probably know, capturing the essence of a duochrome shift is tough. This is Soft Frost in the daylight, and you can see the warm off-white shift to violet fairly well.
This highlighter is unlike anything I have. It’s close to a NYX shadow I sometimes use as a highlight, but Soft Frost is more subtle and almost otherworldly.
In studio light, you can see the subtle cool shift to purple. I LOVE IT. (Can you tell I love purple from this photo?)
The MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinishes are here to stay! Finally, not a limited edition rush to the MAC counter. I do plan on picking up the other two, Beaming Blush and Show Gold so stay tuned for those reviews soon.
