MAC Cosmetics Diwali Light Festival Eyeshadow x 9 palette review

For this year’s Diwali, MAC Cosmetics has released a curated palette of nine beautiful eyeshadows. If you aren’t familiar with Diwali, it’s a yearly Hindu “festival of lights” that is full of color, hope, love and joy.

The Light Festival Eyeshadow x 9 Palette is a colorful collection of Diwali-inspired shades pulled from MAC’s permanent line. I can’t remember MAC releasing anything for Diwali before, so this is pretty cool!

Top row:
Ricepaper – peachy gold with shimmer (frost)
Goldmine – intense gold with shimmer (frost)
Amber Lights – peachy brown with shimmer (frost)

Middle row:
Coppering – orange copper (veluxe pearl)
Cranberry – red plum with pink shimmer (frost)
Embark – intense reddish brown (matte)

Bottom row:
Humid – intense green with shimmer (frost)
Deep Truth – true dark blue (frost)
Carbon – intense black (matte)

I did three looks using this palette, each centered around a specific shade, this one being Coppering which appears all over the lid. I also used Embark to deepen the crease, Ricepaper under the brow and Carbon on the lashline.

Applied dry, Coppering isn’t as intense as I thought it would be, but it’s a nice, warm shimmer.

This was my birthday look! I’m currently in NYC and spent the day at the American Museum of Natural History (which is why all photos this week are taken outside with my travel camera).

I wore this on Presidential Debate Sunday! I mixed the blue, Deep Truth, into the crease and popped Cranberry onto the lid. Get it, Republican v Democrat!

The blue shade isn’t very intense when applied dry, which is a recurring theme in this palette. I prefer to show you the shades as they are, not as they could be if you add a fixative or mix. I also popped a couple shades from the Zoeva En Taupe palette into this look as a transition.

This really was a cool look though. And did you know, in NYC everyone gathered around TVs at bars to watch the debate. It really is like reality TV, am I right?

The last look is what I have on my eyes today, all about Humid. This pretty green complements the green/gold flecks in my eyes perfectly. Again, I used some shades from En Taupe for the transition and a bit in the crease. The shades in this palette are too warm or dark for under the brow or as a transition for someone with my fair skin.

To give Humid a bit of life, I popped some Amber Lights in the centre of my lid too.

As usual, Carbon is a total let down. This works as a smoky liner but will never be a deep, bold black. Most of these shades swatch alright. The shimmers are a wee bit patchy though but little to no fallout.
