The queen of burlesque has teamed up with MAC Cosmetics to release a stunning matte red lip to help any girl feel a little bit sexy. This launch also coincides with the launch of Dita’s book, Your Beauty Mark!

MAC x Dita Von Teese is a vivid tomato red matte.

The lipstick tube and bullet are imprinted with Dita’s signature wordmark, making this another super limited edition and highly coveted collectible.

This red isn’t unique by any means, but it does stand out against some of my go-to red lipstick shades. Compared to Riri Woo, it’s a bit warmer, lighter and not as dry; compared to Maybelline Cherry Cherry Bang Bang, Dita is definitely way less blue-toned.

Oh hey there, this shade applies like a dream! The matte is very typical of MAC mattes, it dries down a bit but essentially looks satin.

On me, it actually looks way less tomato red and more neutral red (probably because of the pink undertones in my lips).

Let’s face it, even though this is dupeable I LOVE IT because Dita is a total babe and this LE packaging is really cool.

I’m not too sure about this one, MAC Cosmetics. The Faerie Whispers collection doesn’t really call to me… but it’s pretty and, well, there is a highlight powder.

Seriously, I have been singing Mariah Carey Christmas songs non-stop ever since I picked up the MAC Cosmetics x Mariah Carey lipstick in All I Want.

It’s a real earworm, isn’t it?

And in true Mariah fashion, the lipstick she released with MAC is opulent. All I Want is champagne shimmer with a frost finish.

This can be worn alone or as a lipstick topper to add shimmer and shine to an existing shade. On fair skin such as mine, this does NOT look good just on its own, BUT… when mixed with a nice red lipstick it really adds something special.

Compared to MAC’s Ruffian Gold, All I Want is cooler and pinker and a bit more opaque.

Mixing a layer of All I Want over MAC’s Dita Von Teese red matte lipstick really added dimension, sparkle and shine. It also added a bit of a cool tone to it. This is a great way to transform any lipstick you have to something with a bit more “jazz hands”.

Sparkle, and shimmer, and shine! That’s what the MAC Faerie Whispers collection is all about. From ultra-glittery shadows to beautiful shimmery face powders, this collection is for all of you who aren’t afraid of a little sparkle.

Sweet Illusion Foiled Eyeshadow ($24 CAD) is a warm silver glitter.

I swept Dusty Purple (MAC) in the crease and covered my entire lid, crease and brow bone with Sweet Illusion.

I packed it on pretty heavy in the centre of the lid too and it left a mirror-like almost wet finish. The fallout with this isn’t bad at all and I applied it using a spritz of Fix+ on my brush. These remind me a lot of the Extra Dimension formula only a bit looser.

Pearl Sunshine Beauty Powder ($26 CAD) is a soft peach with pink shimmer blush or highlight powder.

On my skintone, Pearl Sunshine is more of a blush shade and leans quite warm. I topped my cheekbones with a little Sweet Illusion too (applied dry), for an extra punch of highlight.

Enchanter Cremesheen Glass ($24 CAD) is a copper brownish red with gold reflects.

This shade has a ton of shimmer in it and is very shiny.

Like all Cremesheens, it leaves a hint of colour behind and a lot of gold shimmer. This isn’t as tacky as the regular lipglass formula.

Here I applied Sweet Illusion dry so you can see how soft you can make it. Pearl Sunshine is a 2x swatch and it shows up quite peacy in this light (it often shifts to a pinker tone in the sun).

And here’s everything all together! I added Benefit’s Beyond Blue mascara for a little extra pop of colour on my eyes. I was a bit skeptical of the Foiled shadow but I really love the versatility and actually plan on losing Sweet Illusion more as a subtle silver highlight shade.

WHAT WILL YOU BE GETTING?
The MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolor will be available soon online (here’s the link), Jan 7 in stores! I believe this will be part of the permanent line.

From the 15 shades of MAC’s new Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour, I chose Recollection to try first. It was a hard decision, but when in doubt…. GO PURPLE!

Recollection is described as an intense bright violet, and that it is. I’ve heard it’s very similar to Heroine (lipstick) but I can’t for the life of me find mine to compare.

But I did dig up my Lime Crime Velvetine in Pansy to compare, and Recollection is a touch lighter and warmer. The formula though, it’s creamier and way more flexible. I find Lime Crime tends to separate and get oily (as you can tell from the wet texture and slight feathering above).

This dries down matte in about a minute. The trick to applying any liquid matte lipcolour is thin layers and do NOT press your lips together. This was two thin layers with about a 30 second dry time in between.

MAC’s formula is very flexible and does not feel too drying. Compared to Lime Crime, Colourpop and H&M, this is a treat! It wore well through a meal and only started to crack a bit after four hours. And the colour is STUNNING!

The MAC Contour & Sculpt Yourself palette popped up out of nowhere today on the MAC site. It’s $72 CAD/$60 USD (worth $138 CAD/$112 USD) and contains some of my all-time favourite pro powders.

The MAC Cosmetic Sculpt & Contour Yourself palette is an online exclusive available at MACcosmetics online in Canada or the US.

Out of all the Viva Glam releases, I was the most excited for Viva Glam Ariana Grande. Usually when MAC goes bold or vibrant with a Viva Glam, it’s a red or baby lilac. But this… this was promising… a sexy, vampy deep plum.

“Good girl? Bad girl? Glam girl? Ask VIVA GLAM Ariana Grande! Go deep dark in her matte plum Lipstick or good, good in shimmering pink Lipglass.”

Like Viva Glam collabs of the past, this has a red tube and a signature (like Miley, Gaga, Nicki etc).

MAC Viva Glam Ariana Grande is described as a deep dark plum with a matte finish.

I really thought I had something closer to Viva Glam Ariana Grande, but I don’t. Over the holidays I did a huge purge and a lot of my older MACs turned into new MACs though the Back 2 MAC program.

Gosh Ariana, I want to love you so bad. The lip line went on so clean and crisp but the lipstick just got patchy within seconds. For a matte, this was surprisingly slippery.

I am so torn. I love, love, love the shade and it looks great from far away but up close it’s a bit of a mess. Of course, 100% of the purchase price of any VIVA GLAM product goes toward the M·A·C AIDS Fund, which makes me feel good inside (and out). And thus completing my MAC Viva Glam collection yet again.

MAC is teaming up with Chris Chang from the fashion label Poesia! Now I am not familiar with Chang’s designs but he is apparently very well-known in the Shanghai fashion circuit. This collection promises a “vivid kaleidoscope of cutting edge color” and draws inspiration from Kunqu, an ancient Chinese art form.

The MAC x Chris Chang (#MACPoesia) launches sometime in late May or early June. I still don’t know exact pricing, but I will update when I get it!

My first introduction to MAC’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($24 CAD/$20 USD) was the bright purple shade, Recollection. It was love at first swipe and I had to try more… so here they are, four more shades of this gorgeous liquid matte lipstick!

If you’re new to MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour, let me gush for a little bit. It dries down matte but sets like a soft velvet. It’s flexible and doesn’t crack, and it wears well for over 8 hours.

Described as “a splash of colour in a liquid-suede finish that is impossible to forget.” And I agree. Despite a little crumbling after eating a greasy hamburger, this liquid lip lasts until you take it off with an oil-based cleanser (I suggest Coconut Oil).

Oh, Lady is described as a deep wine.

This gorgeous berry-stained shade was not patchy and was super easy to apply.

High Drama is described as a deep dark plum.

Now I am usually hesitant when it comes to deep shades of liquid lipstick, but this wasn’t bad at all. Maybe a bit uneven but totally gorgeous!

Dance With Me is described as a deep cranberry red.

This cool-toned red is a real stunner and probably the most even application of the bunch.

Back in Vogue is described as a peachy nude.

Now the lighter shades tend to look a bit more patchy or dry on the lips. But they still wear well and last and last.

For us pale-skinned ladies, finding a nice peachy neutral can be difficult. This one is pretty great for anyone in the NW15-20 range!

And then I had a bit of fun. This is Dance With Me and a layer of Back in Vogue in the centre! Pretty, right?

The MAC x Zac Posen collection launches online soon, and these couture-inspired pieces with their clean and simple designs remind me a lot of the MAC x Brooke Shields release!

Each piece is made from grey plastic or metal and is squared (except for the mascara). The plastic has a matte finish as does the metal. There is a gold Zac Posen wordmark on every piece too.

This small compact is perfect to throw in your purse or desk because it has a mirror and a nice applicator brush. And since there is a neutral matte, you will always have a nice transition shade!

The shades are a bit sheer and I had to swatch them fairly heavily. The bottom row definitely performs better than the top, although I do love that top matte shade.

Wearing all shades from the palette except for the last two in the top row. Everything is really soft and pretty and blends out nicely. The mascara is kind of a miss for me though, a bit clumpy.

The deepest shade, Mauve Over, is very light but adds nice dimension.

Haute Contour – matte neutral brown/pink coral with pearl

The good: I LOVE the texture of the bronzer shade the blush is really pretty!
The meh: The bronze shade is a bit orange and I would much prefer an even 50/50 split of the shades.

I had to swatch these 3x to show up, which is good for the bronze shade since you don’t want it to be too harsh. When mixed together, the blush adds a slight gold shimmer to the bronze.

Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder – $32.50 CAD/$27 USD

Wearing the Finishing Powder to set my foundation, I was able to wear this look ALL DAY without much fading. I wore a concentrated amount of the Haute Contour bronze shade in the hollows of my cheekbones and used a small brush to apply the blush shade on my cheeks.

The lipsticks are packaged in matte-finish gunmetal grey square lipstick packaging with burnished gold tubes. The metal tends to show fingerprints but the finish is pretty awesome.

Darling Clementine – bright orange (matte)

This shade is GORGEOUS. It is one of the more matte MAC mattes I’ve had in a while and it feels great on the lips. This is smooth and heavily pigmented.

Don’t be scared of orange lipstick, guys, because this one is PERFECT!

Dangerously Red – blue fuchsia (matte)

Although this is described as a matte, the finish really reminds me of MAC’s satin formula.

The shade reminds me a lot of MAC’s LE shade Moxie, only this is a bit deeper and not as matte. It leaves a really pretty berry stain behind and wears well for hours and hours.

This is only a 1x swatch each. Both are insanely pigmented, smooth and don’t feather (little slip).

I definitely love this collection, and of all the pieces I would wholeheartedly recommend the lipsticks! The blush duo is nice but may be better suited for someone with a warmer skintone.

I’m so proud of MAC for stepping up and supporting this somewhat controversial cause. I remember back in the mid 90s when MAC launched the AIDS Fund and a lot of people denounced the brand for doing so. It was a scary time (especially in the LGBT community) and MAC stood their ground and fought against hatred and prejudice. You may have noticed I am a HUGE fan of MAC and I think Viva Glam and the AIDS Fund initiative have a lot to do with it.

Back in 2010, MAC released Air of Style fragrance as part of the Marcel Wanders collection. I fell in love with the intoxicating floral scent when I tried it in store, but it sold out so quickly I never had a chance to pick it up. Now I’m happy to announce, Air of Style is back for good!

The packaging is stunning! It’s a rectangular glass and metal cube with a pink and fuschia gradient, very similar to the styling of MAC Turquatic. There’s a MAC logo imprinted on the top as well.

Top Notes: White pepper, dried red dates, wild peonies
Heart Notes: Tuberose, orange blossom, jasmine, ylang-ylang, orris
Bottom Notes: Touch of leather, antique woods, vetiver, amber crystals, tonka beans

This one is complex. On first spray, you can really smell the florals (peonies and jasmine in particular). It starts as a creamy white floral but slowly dries down to something a bit richer because of the leather, woods and vetiver. Throughout the day, I can catch a whiff of this on my wrist and I swear it smells different every time. I’ve had this on all day (about 8 hours), and right now it smells like a woodsy vanilla.

If you asked me what my favourite MAC limited packaging was… I’d have to put the Charlotte Olympia collection on the list. There’s just something about the mix of spiderwebs and old Hollywood glam that really appeals to me, and it’s quite different than any MAC release I’ve seen (and I’ve seen them all).

Inspired by pinups, silver screen sirens and the bygone era of Hollywood glamour, the British luxury shoe and accessory brand is known for a vintage aesthetic that embodies elegance and femininity with a hefty dollop of charm.

Designer Charlotte Olympia is known for her signature spiderweb, so it only made sense that everything in this collection had that mark.

Now I’m not usually one for MAC pigments (or any loose pigment for that matter), but look at the jar!

Overdressed is described as a fleshy beige with pearl.

On fair skin, this is a nice peachy/champagne highlight shade. It’s beige with a hint of peach shimmer. On darker skin tones, this would probably sheer out a bit and still leave a nice beige sheen.

Using Kat Von D Lock-It Eye Primer in Fair as a base, I put Overdressed on the inner corner and centre of my lid, then blended it out to a darker pink shade. This gives a really dimensional pop of highlight.

The packaging on the lipstick doesn’t wow me as much as the pigment, it’s just a clear square case with a gold tube. But I do still love that spiderweb detail!

Retro Rouge is described as a deep brown red matte.

It’s definitely one of the more matte mattes I’ve seen from MAC in awhile, but it does still have that nice hydrating, creamy texture. The closest dupe I have is Maybelline’s Creamy Matte in Divine Wine.

This doesn’t read too brown on my lips, more like a red burgundy. It’s super pigmented and really easy to create a sharp lip line. Great longwear too!

So here’s the complete look. For the eyes, the left side I used Overdressed pigment on the lid with Kat Von D Lock-It Eye Primer in Fair  and the right side is Overdressed on bare skin. You can see the pigment really benefits from having a light, cream base.

Although there are a lot of other pieces in the collection, I’m really happy I kept my haul small. The packaging is gorgeous, but the shades aren’t entirely unique. I’d definitely recommend the pigment, if not for the shade… for that jar!
